Q: What is VanLink?
A: VanLink is a special program that allows social service agencies to have more flexibility and control over their client's transportation. Instead of reserving rides on ACCESS, which provides reservation-in-advance transportation to eligible disabled and elderly riders, agencies are provided with a Kitsap Transit van they can use to transport their clients. The agency can then drive their clients to medical appointments, shopping or work without having to schedule in advance.
Q: Who can get a VanLink van?
A: You must be associated with an agency or organization that works with the elderly, disabled, veterans, the low income, people with limited English proficiency or other clients that have special transportation needs.
Q: Can VanLink be used to provide school transportation?
A: Not at this time, the vans do not meet the requirements for school transportation.
Q: What are the requirements to become a driver?
A: You must be at least 21 years of age, have a good driving record for the past three years and complete a driver orientation given by Kitsap Transit.
Q: How much does VanLink cost?
A: There is no charge to the agency, but each passenger must buy a Kitsap Transit monthly bus pass or pay $2.00 cash for a one-way trip. The agency is required to monitor the bus passes, record the rides and fares and forward that information to Kitsap Transit once a month.
Q: Can VanLink drivers use the van for personal or staff use?
A: No. The van is not to be used for personal or staff use.
Q: What happens if the van breaks down?
A: The agency contacts Kitsap Transit's Maintenance Department. They will arrange to trade your vehicle with another as soon as possible to make sure there will be little to no disruption to clients.
Q: What are the driver's responsibilities?
A: It is the driver's responsibility to make sure the van is kept clean inside and out and to fuel the van. They must also complete their paperwork in a timely manner. Most importantly, they are responsible for the safety of the passengers.
Q: What does Kitsap Transit provide?
A: Kitsap Transit provides the vans, fuel, maintenance, van washing locations and driver orientation.
