Using Your Wheelchair/Mobility Device on Routed Service

CATCHING THE BUS

To catch the bus go to the nearest bus stop on your route. Not sure where you need to catch the bus? Contact our Customer Service department at 1.800.501.7433.

Please wait in a safe location with plenty of space for the bus to pull over. The bus needs about five feet of flat surface to deploy the wheelchair lift. When you see your bus approaching, signal the driver.

BOARDING THE BUS

The operator will secure the bus and deploy the lift. You may board the lift facing the bus or facing the sidewalk. Please take extra care when backing your wheelchair onto the lift. Passengers boarding the bus with a ramp style lift should board the ramp facing the bus. Ask the operator for assistance if needed. After the operator raises the lift and you reach the floor level of the bus, please enter the coach slowly and carefully. The operator will help you find an appropriate securement spot.

SECURING YOUR WHEELCHAIR OR OTHER MOBILITY DEVICE

If you are comfortable transferring to a regular coach seat, please do so. If you prefer to remain in your wheelchair/scooter, the operator will secure your device. When the operator has completed securement, please set your device's brakes. The operator will offer you a shoulder/lap belt for your security.

Some Kitsap Transit buses are equipped with a self-service Quantum securement system. If you are familiar and comfortable using this system, please maneuver your mobility device within the securement area and push the green button on your left. This button allows the Quantum arms to engage and secure your mobility device. If you would like in-person instruction on using the Quantum system, please call our Customer Service Office. Agents will connect you with personnel who will be glad to help.

SIGNAL YOUR STOP

Be alert to your destination to notify the driver of your stop. If you are not familiar with the area, ask the driver to let you know when you are approaching your stop. Pull the cord above the windows or press the yellow button between the windows to your left to let the driver know you want to get off.

LEAVING THE BUS

The operator will help remove any required securements and will help you exit the bus. After the doors open and the lift fully deploys, please move forward onto the lift and set your brakes. The operator will lower the lift to the ground and you're on your way.
